LONDON—Coronavirus infections amongst schoolchildren in the U.k. have pushed day by day caseloads to stubbornly high tiers, a setback that underscores how Britain now trails a lot of its European neighbors on vaccination after staking out an early lead.

The U.ok. begun vaccinating teens in August, a long way later than within the U.S. and Europe, and decided to drop just about all public-health restrictions all the way through the summer, amid optimism that vaccines had checked the speedy-spreading Delta variant.
